Week of May 25th

Week of May 25th
In science this week we did a lab on the surface of the moon. We dropped a tin foil ball in different possible surfaces of the moon and came to the conclusion that flour is most like the moons surface. We also started a new unit on chemistry. We started by saying that all matter is made up of smaller pieces the move in all directions and move at all different speeds. Pieces are made up of particles, which are made up of atoms, which is the smallest unit of measurement. An atom is made up of neutrons, electrons, protons, and the nucleus. Protons are positively charged. Neutrons are charged neutrally. Lastly, electrons are charged negitavley.

Week of May 18th

Week of May 18th
This week in science we learned more about moon phases, tides, and seasons. The different phases of the moon are a quarter moon, gibbous moon, cresent moon, full moon, and a new moon. Each of those phases could either be waxing or waning. Waxing meaning to gain light, or waning meaning to lose light. When the moon is waning it is on the left, when the moon is waxing it is on the right. An exquinox is when the tilt of the Earths axis is inclined, which are during the seasons of fall and spring. A solstice is when the tilt of the Earths axis is directly facing the sun, or as far away as possible. A solstice is during the seasons of summer and winter. There are two different types of tides, a spring and neap time. A spring tide is when the high tides are much stronger then the low tides. A neap tide is when high and low tides dont have much of a difference. This week we also started to design an experiment about the surface of the moon.
